“RUNNING FOR THE ARTS” SET FOR MAY 3 AT MEMORIAL CITY
MALL
—Annual event supports cultural arts enrichment activities
for kids—
HOUSTON (April 23, 2008) – On Saturday, May
3, Memorial City Mall will host Running for the Arts, a U.S. Track
and Field Association-sanctioned 5K Run/Walk and art auction to
benefit the Spring Branch Education Foundation’s ARTS Partners
Program, which provides kids in grades 1-8 with cultural arts experiences.
The 16th annual Running for the Arts is an initiative of the Spring
Branch Independent School District’s Council of PTAs and the
Spring Branch Education Foundation, with Memorial City Mall as a
presenting underwriter.
Running for the Arts is open to the public in eight age groups,
from 11 and younger to
60 and older. The entry fee, which includes a free t-shirt, is $20
for adults 19 and older and
$15 for participants 18 and younger, when paid by Friday, May 2.
Members of the Houston
Area Road Runners Association (HARRA) are eligible for a $1 discount.
Interested persons may register online at www.signmeupsports.com,
or register and pick up event packets at Sun & Ski Sports at
Memorial City Mall on Thurs¬day, May 1, from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.
or Friday, May 2, from
11 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Sun & Ski Sports is located on the mall’s
south side, facing Barryknoll between Sears and the Food Court.)
For those who would like to support the event,
but would rather doze late on the weekend, registration is also
open for the “Saturday Sleep In.” For a $50 donation,
which nets four t-shirts, supporters can sleep late on the day of
the fundraiser instead of waking up early to participate.
The schedule for Running for the Arts is as follows:
• 6:30 – 7:45 a.m.: Final event registration and packet
pick-up at Sun & Ski Sports at Memorial City Mall.
• 8 a.m.: 5K Run/Walk begins at the south entrance of JCPenney.
The route ends in front of the south entrance of the mall.
• 9 a.m.: Non-competitive “Kids' K,” consisting
of jump rope and hula hoop contests and other activities, near the
south entrance of the mall.
• 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Silent art auction, featuring student
work from every SBISD school, on display behind the Guest Services
Center (north of the Food Court) at Memorial City Mall.
• 9:30 a.m.: After-race awards celebration with refreshments,
music and door prizes in front of Berryhill Baja Grill adjacent
to the Memorial City Mall Food Court. The male and female overall
event winner will each receive a $300 Memorial City Mall gift card
and a gift certificate to Sun & Ski Sports for a pair of Mizuno
running shoes. Master male and female winners will each receive
a $200 Memorial City Mall gift card. First, second and third place
winners in each age group for the 5K Run will each receive a medallion.
All Kids’ K participants will receive a ribbon. Every participant
present at the celebration will be eligible for random prize drawings
courtesy of Memorial City area merchants.
